Green Oaks Hotel

6901 West Freeway - 1965 (CLOSED - DEMOLITION DECEMBER 2007)

This motor hotel opened in December 1965 as the Green Oaks Inn, and was modeled after the famous Western Hills Hotel on Camp Bowie (Demolished).  Brothers Hank and Bill Green, Fort Worth businessmen, developed this property to serve the nation's traveling needs.  The architectural styling of the complex is Tudor.  Over the years, the hotel has hosted numerous celebrities, including Tina Turner, Bob Hope, John Forsythe, Jimmy Durante, Janet Leigh, and Red Skelton.  Elvis Presley also stayed at the hotel when he was performing at the Tarrant County Convention Center in 1974.

The 284 room hotel was purchased in 2002 by Cawley Wilcox Cos. in Dallas.  They plan to demolish the hotel and construct a three story office building on seven of the twelve acres on the site.  A new hotel will probably be developed on the remaining five acres.  The office building is slated to open in late 2008 or early 2009.
