Flying Saucer Canopy

NW Corner 3rd & Commerce - 2010

This large outdoor courtyard that served as additional seating and a small concert venue for the bar/restaurant needed additional protection from the sun. More than twenty existing trees did not provide enough shade for outdoor dining in the middle of the hot Texas summers. The shade structure provides light for the trees to grow, yet also provides enough shade for the patrons. It also offers protection from the rain. The form of the shade structure is two partial arches with a gap at the top that serves as ventilation.
